The Stephen Ministry program is a caring non-judgmental and confidential one-to-one relationship between a trained pastoral lay volunteer and a person experiencing the loss of a loved one, loneliness, retirement changes, unemployment/job crisis, discouragement, depression childbirth, pregnancy/adoption, hospitalization, separation/divorce, terminal illness, chronic illness, begin homebound, relocation moving transitions, aging, family relationships, lifestyle changes - at no cost to the receiver.
Stephen Ministers complete a 5-month training course covering Christian caregiving and crisis intervention followed by twice-monthly supervisor and continuing education classes. In addition, they are committed to providing a listening, Christian, supportive environment to those in need of care. Stephen ministers commit to serve others and participate in regular supervision groups for an initial two-year period, though many choose to serve much longer.

Stephen Ministers use the Caregivers compass to show what we are all about:
Stephen Ministers have compassion for the care receivers' spiritual, emotional, or physical issues.
We are Full of Faith because we rely on God-not our own actions-to bring hope and healing to our care receivers.
We become skilled through the training we receive then ongoing education and the supervision from our Stephen leaders.
Care receivers depend on the trustworthiness and confidentiality that Stephen ministers abide by. Confidentiality is one of the most important principles of Stephen Ministry. What a care receiver tells his or her SM and even the care receiver's Identity is kept in the strictest confidence.
At the center of the compass and our ministry is Christ. He is our Lord and Savior he helps us heal care receivers through God's love, compassion, and forgiveness.

Stephen leaders are the ones who oversee and direct Stephen Ministers. They will recruit, select, train and organize and supervise Stephen Ministers. They will identify people in need of care and match them with a Stephen minister.
Stephen Ministers are the caregivers. They receive 5 months of training in Christian care and crisis intervention including general topics of listening, feelings, boundaries, assertiveness, and using catholic resources in caregiving. In addition, their training includes specialized topics such as ministering to the bereaved, aging, hospitalized, divorced, and much more. Ministers also participate in twice-monthly supervision groups and continuing education.
Care Receivers are the people that receive care from the Stephen ministers. They are people from the Parish, friends, family, and community who are experiencing life’s transitions such as divorce, grief, loss of a job, loneliness, pregnancy or infertility, illness of any kind, or any number of other life problems. Stephen ministers usually meet with their care reviver once a week for one hour for as long as the Stephen minister is needed by the Care receiver.
